Cold Call Supplier Scam
Our company received a call from Mr Chen, who claimed to be a teacher from "Hwa Chong Institution". He mentioned that the school needed renovations and asked for a site visit and a quotation.

The following day, he called again, saying the school needed to purchase 30 tins of paint costing around $480 per unit from a factory in Malaysia. He claimed the principal had a dispute with this company previously and needed our help to make the inquiry on their behalf. He asked us to help pay the $3,000 deposit, promising to reimburse us after receiving the paint. However, he gave multiple reasons for being unable to make the payment himself, such as the accounts department being in a meeting or not in the office.

When the factory salesperson asked for more deposit, I realized it might be a scam. I contacted the Malaysian company to confirm and learned they do not deliver to Malaysia. I also double-checked with "Hwa Chong Institution", and they confirmed it was a scammer. I immediately reported the incident to the bank, providing all the details and mentioning the transaction occurred within the past hour, hoping they could recover the funds.
